What are cookies and local storage?
Cookies and local storage are small datasets in your browser. They enable basic functions (for example login) and, with your consent, optional functions such as analytics and embedded videos.
Necessary (always active)
Required for operation and security and cannot be deselected:
- Login and session management via our auth service.
- Security and abuse prevention.
- Theme selection (light/dark).
- An anonymous ID to save your local progress before login.
- Storing your consent choices.
- A temporary session entry holding the link token on the email confirmation and preference pages, deleted when you close the tab.
Analytics (with consent)
Only after you opt in to "Analytics" do we store the following in your browser. Without consent PostHog measures cookieless (nothing is stored on your device, see the privacy policy, section 6).
- ph_<project key>_posthog (cookie and local storage, PostHog, 12 months): random visitor ID and session state.
- __ph_opt_in_out_<project key> (cookie, PostHog, 12 months): records that you consented.
- ph_<project key>_window_id (session storage, PostHog, until the tab is closed): links page views of one tab for session replay.
- ae_first_touch_v1 (local storage, first party, until withdrawal): first landing page, referrer, campaign and language.
- analytics_session_id, analytics_session_last, analytics_pending_events:* (local storage) and analytics_user_id (session storage), Portfolio Analytics, first party: session, last activity, unsent events, account ID.
- Session replay (PostHog): records page interactions with every input masked; kept for 30 days.
External media (with consent)
YouTube videos are only loaded after your consent via youtube-nocookie.com. Data may be transferred to Google/YouTube in the process.
Payments
Checkout and the billing portal run on pages hosted by Stripe. Stripe sets its own necessary cookies there for security and fraud prevention, under its own cookie policy; we do not set payment cookies on our site.
Marketing
We currently do not use any third-party marketing or tracking cookies, and our emails contain no tracking pixels. Should this change, we will ask for your consent in advance.
Global Privacy Control
If we detect a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser, we only store necessary preferences, switch off consent-based analytics (only the storage-free measurement remains), external media and marketing, and show no consent banner.
